Rain Sensor Retrofit Program
If you have an automatic lawn irrigation system, the city of Sioux Falls encourages you to retrofit a rain sensor into your existing irrigation system. The City is offering rebates to offset your cost in installing this sensor. This device can significantly reduce the amount of water on your lawn: It shuts off your sprinklers when your lawn receives a quarter-inch of rain. Installing a rain sensor on your lawn irrigation system can:
Save you significant money on your water bill. While rainfall varies widely from year to year, your rain sensor has the potential to save you an estimated $100 per year on your water bill.
Conserve the community's drinking water supply. Lawn watering is a very significant factor in water usage, and it is often quite inefficient. What is less water wise than water sprinklers operating while rain is pouring down?
- Reduce wear on your irrigation system because your system operates less.
- Reduce lawn and landscaping damage due to over watering.
Both residential and non-residential properties can qualify for a rebate up to $ 50.00 toward the purchase and installation of the first rain sensor, and $ 35.00 for each additional rain sensor. ( Some large systems may have more than one controller and may require multiple rain sensors)
